Dragon Age: Legacy

(A fantasy PBEM RPG based on BioWare's role-playing game series, Dragon Age.)

It's been five years since the Fifth Blight was put down and the Archdemon defeated. Under the guidance of King Alistair and Queen Anora, Ferelden has recovered from the darkspawn invasion and prospered. Because of the heroism of the one affectionately referred to as the Hero of Ferelden, the Grey Wardens are once again revered throughout the world of Thedas.

The central base of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden survived the attack of The Mother's army thanks to the heroic efforts of the Silver Order soldiers and the few Grey Wardens who were left behind to defend it. After saving the city of Amaranthine from the latest darkspawn threat, and killing The Mother with the help of The Architect, the Warden-Commander rebuilt the Order at Vigil's Keep. Recruits from all over Ferelden were anxious to join the legendary ranks of the Grey Wardens, and before long the Order numbered well over 300 strong.

A year later, the Hero of Ferelden disappeared. Some say he left Ferelden to help other nations in need. Some say the taint forced him to the Deep Roads where he met his death after slaughtering a slew of darkspawn. Others believe his lover, Leliana, beckoned him to Orlais. The most popular theory, however, is the account of a mage who says the Warden passed through an Eluvian with his true love, Morrigan.

Today, there is relative peace throughout the world. Some believe it is the calm before the storm. The eye of the hurricane. King Bhelen is furthering his controversial policies to modernize Orzammar and establish closer ties with "the surface." The Chantry continues to spread its message while its Templar Order keeps the Circle of Magi in check and hunts apostates and maleficars. Ferelden and Orlais have strengthened their relationship, while skirmishes continue between the Tevinter Imperium and the Qunari.

We are a cooperative fantasy writing group based in BioWare's world of Dragon Age. We use a traditional freestyle form of writing in the past tense, third-person point of view, focusing on character and story development. Our forum is a PBEM venue and authors are encouraged to engage in their own narrative prose through the development of subplots and independent storytelling. This creative writing campaign promotes writing skill, thoughtful story design, and mutual respect for contributing authors as well as their characters.

WHAT IS A PBEM?

A PBEM is an acronym for "Play-By-E-Mail." Put simply, players add to the main storyline by sending e-mail messages to a mail list (such as Yahoo! Groups) that explains their characters' actions or responses to an environment set by the gamemaster (GM). This form of storytelling allows players to spend time crafting their messages before sending it to the rest of the players. Therefore, we find it an ideal forum for individuals who enjoy thinking their way through a plot and coming up with creative responses to the actions of other players.
